Summer trip 2009

Place: Botton Village, North Yorkshire  Moors – a Camphill community that works with special needs adults.

Accommodation: We’ll be camping out at the back of the valley (20 mins walk from village) next to a lake and in a forest.  There is also an old Quaker’s stone hut to stay in.  There is a spring and compost toilet.

Activities: We can hang out there or you can have a chance to work in one of the workshops (Bakery, creamery, coffee bar, woordworkshop, seedworkshop) or on one of the 8 farms and gardens.  It is in the North Yorkshire Moors NP and walks are a plenty.  We also decided at the AGM that it’d be a good idea to find out ‘WHO IS GREEN ACTION?’.  A group will have prepared a session for this so we can start discussing it, the aim being to then firm it up just before term starts again and everyone can be refreshed and exited!  This also means you’re not forced to go on the trip if your interested in this question.

Food:  The community grows alot of their own veg and from past experience have lost of leftovers they feed to the animals, so its almost definate we can get the veg for free.  Amy and Aly are going to sort out all the other food.

Transport: There’ll be a bikegang – its about 50-60 miles.  Public transport would take about 3 hrs and cost £10 each way.  Hitching is a possibility too.

Cost: Accomodation is free so only food and transport need to be paid for…food will probably ciost about £8 for the weekend (excluding booze)

meeting 06/05/09

Wehey!  We have new co-ordinators [[Roles]] for next year to ensure the smoooth running of the co-op! They are (descriptions at bottom of this email):

Next year

General Co-op: Judith (and Hannah)
Lembas: Bethan and Judith
Membership: Nikky [with more of a publicity focussed title]
Allotment: probably Jack and Ben
Website: probably Nikolai

We still have a few [[Roles|holes]] to be filled though, namely:

Goosemoor Organise rota for ordering; additions to mailing list (vegboxes lists.riseup.net) send order deadline reminders and collection reminders; make sure order and collection system working well; ensure that those placing orders are made aware of when to collect etc.

Accounts: We have 3 accounts so someone needs to make sure everything is as it should be! Also need to make sure funding applications to the Union get completed before deadlines and thoroughly;  they let the co-op coordinator know how much money is available for orders each week; they store all records of what they do in the file in the co-op; they report on money matters every second meeting.

Ideas –Ensure bits of Green Action other than the co-op aren’t neglected, empower people to put their campaign ideas/ general activity ideas into action…

You do not need to have had experience for the roles, just some enthusiasm! And we’ll fully equip you! It is also possible to pair-up with roles that have already been taken…and of course roles can be merged and changed to everyones agreement…if your interested please [[contact]] any of us!

Hannah, Nanda, Aly and Ben will all be hangin around (not like annoying flies)

Summer Opening

Bethan and Nanda will co-ordinate summer time openings – Rotas and Notices coming soon…

Award for our efforts!

GA won the ‘Environment Volunteering’ Award and got a shiny glass piece (marvel at will in the co-op) and a £30 book token as a reward.  Suggestions for books will be put on the website (http://www.greenactionleeds.org.uk/) by Nikolai, so far books about Co-operatives has been suggested, put yours on too!  Give yerself a pat on the back too..or ask someone else to.

Expanding co-op vibes to the world

Two things were discussed here:
  a) General Publicity for the co-op.  suggestions to advertise in departments, newsletters, more regular stalls etc.  We felt it was first necessary to have the ‘who is green action’ discussion.  Hannah has offered to co-ordinate this over the summer email: yayforhons@msn.com if ya wanna help out.

  b) Helping other students to set up co-ops.  We have a link with a student food co-op in Edinbrugh who wanna join forces.  Manchester, Sussex and other uni’s seem to be hot targets.  Ben has offered to co-ordinate this.

Green Guide

Its that time f year to update it again.  If you have any feedback of it and ideas of making it even better,
[[http://www.greenactionleeds.org.uk/user/3/contact|Nikolai]] is co-ordinating the project.

Phew, that was rather long, (but I think all worth the while..)

Enjoy this wednesday eve
